Planets

Several different tasks operate within a birth chart, from forming an intention to judging what matters. A planet's function doesn't cover every task, so prominence can leave other needs poorly represented.

The ten planets

The Sunidentity and vitality

The Sun organizes identity around a central purpose, giving choices consistency. When recognition becomes essential, maintaining that identity can consume the vitality supporting it.

The Moonneeds and instinct

With the Moon, emotional needs settle into familiar responses because repetition offers security, even when a trusted pattern no longer fits the feeling.

Mercurymind and speech

Mercury connects an observation to words and possible explanations; constant comparison can leave a thought unfinished because another interpretation remains available.

Venusvalue and affection

Affection carries a judgment about value through Venus, so maintaining agreement can gradually obscure the preferences that made a connection appealing in the beginning.

Marsdrive and effort

Mars turns intention into action. Resistance gives that action something to push against, but sustained confrontation can become a reason to keep acting.

Jupitergrowth and belief

Growth gains direction from Jupiter's beliefs, and confidence supports a larger attempt until certainty begins taking the place of evidence about what remains possible.

Saturnstructure and limit

Where Saturn sets a limit, discipline develops through repeated effort. A dependable standard can harden into restriction when responsibility leaves no room for adjustment.

Uranusdisruption and independence

Uranus breaks continuity to create room for independent choices, which makes rejecting a restriction easier than deciding which established practices still serve a purpose.

Neptuneimagination and dissolution

Imagination fills gaps that precise language cannot reach under Neptune, though sensitivity to suggestion doesn't reliably distinguish a compelling impression from an established fact.

Plutopressure and transformation

Under Pluto, concealed pressure concentrates around control. Keeping something contained can intensify the demands placed on it until maintaining the arrangement requires greater pressure.
